Personal Data Collection Statement

If you are attending any legal first-aid clinic provided by Equal Justice Limited and volunteer lawyers, this Personal Data Collection Statement will apply to you. 

Equal Justice Limited (“Equal Justice”) intends to collect and process personal data relating to you and/or your family members. You understand that providing personal data is not mandatory; however, failure to provide the requested data may prevent Equal Justice from delivering all or part of its services to you. Equal Justice may collect and process your personal data for any of the following purposes: 

  1. The effective operation of Equal Justice; 

  2. The provision of Equal Justice’s services, including (i) assisting you with legal claims and all related matters, (ii) considering, posting, and processing your legal assistance requests on the CLIX platform(https://www.equaljustice.org/clix-pro-bono-portal), and (iii) providing education, information, training, support, social work, and related services; 

  3. Verifying your identity in connection with any services; 

  4. Internal statistical analysis, compilation of reports, and training materials; 

  5. Developing communication, marketing, and fundraising materials (Equal Justice will not use your personal data for direct marketing without your prior consent); 

  6. Collaborating with local and overseas partners, including but not limited to research projects and other forms of cooperation to assist and promote access to justice and legal assistance in Hong Kong and overseas; 

  7. Complying with applicable laws, guidelines, or formal requirements issued by regulatory or other authorities; 

  8. Disclosing your identity and the nature of your request to obtain further information relevant to processing your assistance request. 

Equal Justice may, for the above purposes, disclose personal data relating to you and/or your family members to the following parties*: 

  1. Any relevant third parties providing services to Equal Justice, such as law firms, solicitors and barristers, The Duty Lawyer Service Free Legal Advice Scheme, Equal Justice’s consultants, legal volunteers, contractors, translators, and agents; 

  2. Courts/tribunals, consulates, judicial bodies or agencies, regulators, or other authorities; 

  3. Researchers and collaborative partners of Equal Justice in Hong Kong and overseas; and 

  4. Any person under a duty of confidentiality to Equal Justice.

If any of these parties collect personal data directly from you, they should inform you (including but not limited to) the purposes for which they intend to use your personal data (for example, through their own privacy policy). Such purposes may differ from those listed above. 

You and/or your family members have the right, where applicable, to: 

  1. Request access to such personal data; 

  2. Correct any errors in such personal data; and 

  3. Obtain a copy of such personal data
